George The Pheasant
George is a handsome pheasant who I semi-tamed when he started visiting my garden. He would come every morning and aftenoon on time, for his feed in his specific feeding spot near my aviary. If I was early and he saw me, he would run to catch up and I would call him to get him used to his new name. He would make a sort of woofing noise whilst eating and I learnt, not only can it be a territorial noise but also a sound of contentment and happiness with his familiar routine.
One morning on my way to work (I walk) he chased after me, stopping only when I turned and called back “I’ll see you later George” he stood calling out as I headed off. I didn't see him for over a week after that, and I worried he had been killed.
Then one day at work (I’m a five minute walk from where I work, and it’s also private estate land) he found me as I was feeding the estate hens. I knew straight away it was him, as he called and ran straight toward me, then followed me whilst I placed some feed down for him. This became the new routine. No more garden visits but regular work visits and now most days he follows me around whilst I work, hanging with me for awhile before going off to explore and see his fellow pheasants.
George is my reminder of my amazing gift and natural connective bond with animals, he helps remind me to focus more on my life path and enjoy every little moment in life ❤️
